Ayteaelle Titles

It has been brought to my attention by a friend that I probably should work out some scheme for titles and what not in Ayteaelle. It's kinda confusing because Aeacus doesn't actually care that much about them. Like she is aware and knows how to use them but she'll just throw formal standards out of the window all the time (that's why Ster is so important to her).

Okay, so the classes are set up like a guild system with different levels to indicate skill. This is a very proof of skill heavy society. It doesn't care where you came from, how much money you have, how long you have been working, or if you are an asshole or not. If you can produce good work, then you deserve the appropriate title. There are four universal stages within a class; Student, Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master.
A Student is someone still in the colleges learning from a professor from the Teaching Class. When they graduate from college they are usually enrolled as an Apprentice under a Master in the occupation of choice. In this role they learn the hands on aspects of their occupation and act as cheap labor/an assistant for the Master. An Apprentice can make Journeyman status either through promotion by their Master or by applying for a test against their occupation. If it is by promotion, the Master will be held responsible for the Journeyman's work for the next couple of cycles.
A Journeyman is the average person. Most people will stay at this level. They have the ability to start a firm, open a store, work for a business, do anything they want. Doesn't matter, they have proven that they are capable at their chosen occupation. Only by extreme means and in certain cases will their competence be called into question. If it is within the promotion period, the Master they apprenticed under will also be called into question, but in most cases they will be asked to retake their qualifying exam. If they pass, they return to Apprentice. If they pass, they continue as Journeyman. In both cases, restitution in whatever the case is will be settled by members of the Wisdom Class or between individuals.
Masters are those who have proven considerable skill at their occupation and have appealed to a jury of their peers (all of the Master level) for the distinction. The jury is mostly made up of Masters within the same occupation but also includes Masters of the same Class, different occupation and Masters of different Classes but with relation to the occupation. (Such as an Arts Master for someone going for an architecture Master title.) Jury size is usually fifteen people. After the presentation of skill, the jury will vote whether or not to award the title of Master. The title of Master allows for the person to charge more for their services or goods and gives them honor and distinction. In return they are expected to teach apprentices and can be called upon as experts in their field. A minority of the population will go for their Master title and only a percentage of them will gain their Master title. Award of the Master title is only dependent on skill, not popularity, not gross income, not age (one could be a cycle out of college and apply to be a Master and if skilled enough, get it), or any other influencing factor. They are retested about every five years (opinions?) and can also be questioned. If they don't pass the questioning, they are dropped to Journeyman.

As for occupation titles, it depends on both Class and Occupation. Classes like Honour have a very strict title scheme because they have a military structure. The Ruling and Wisdom Class are given titles based on their roles such as Calleis being called Ambassador and Aeacus being called Arbiter. Master would be tacked on in front if they had that distinction. Other Classes where occupations are more broad like Researchers or Nurturing, they might not have a distinct title as Journeymen but will have Master tacked on if they are one.
Titles are used in business settings to recognize the other person's skill and stature. If it is a casual encounter than titles definitely shouldn't be used. Or if it is a business setting between friends, then titles may not be used except at the introduction or conclusion, or whatever they are comfortable with. Aeacus has a distinct lack of common sense for titles which is on purpose most of the time. Don't use her an example.
