Song Mate

Wow, another unearthed treasure. I have some notes on a story that I was building in my head. A lot of the details have now been lost but I'll still throw this up here.

Character List
Fire Dragon - Nathan Ashflail - Traveling Master Smith
Fire's Mate - Kathryn - Ex-slave
Wind Dragon - Jay Wolfe - Song Seer (still w/o mate)
Fire's Brother - Raiago - Mad King (mate is dead)
Raiago's Mate - Valerie - Death by Accident
Angel - Tonear - Traveling Healer
Angel's Lover - Marlene Hart
Djinni - Vincent Jewel

Nathan finds and saves Kathryn from her slavery by following his song to her. She is his song-mate. She retains the slave collar as a signature of her identity. She is grateful to Nathan for his unexpected rescue but doesn't quite buy the song-mate idea as she can't hear the song; she's not a dragon. She travels with him anyways since she wants to get away from her captors as fast as possible. As they travel, they get closer through sharing stories. She learns was it means to be a dragon; a shape shifter with some magical skills. Eventually she asks to visit the place she was originally taken from. Nathan agrees.
On the way, the pair encounters Jay Wolfe. He approaches Nathan with a request "Raiago's song has turned." His fire brother apparently tragically lost his song-mate and has gone insane. Kathryn agrees to postpone her request to help handle Raiago.
Raiago had been the king of a warrior nation but has now turned dictator. For some reason he is also hunting and imprisoning all non-humans.
When Nathan, Kathryn, and Jay get to the empire, Jay uses his ability to damp the dragons' songs and locates a song that is connected to one at the castle. The song belongs to a woman known as Marlene Hart who is love with an angel who was captured. They learn about the severity of the situation from her and her connection to Tonear, the angel. Raiago is finding non-humans to try to bring his mate back. The four of them enter the castle with Jay and Marlene going to rescue Tonear and the other non-humans. Nathan and Kathryn go after Raiago.
When they confront Raiago, he confuses Kathryn with his Valerie for a moment. Kathryn is able to talk him down and consoles him with a story of a past grief, a fellow slave. He reconciles with himself and swears to be a better king. Jay, Marlene, and Tonear arrive (Jay had heard Raiago's true song restored) and then everyone parts ways, Nathan and Kathryn continuing to her old home.

I assume the story would continue but that's all that my notes have. Though this song mate idea sounds like what I used in Wolf's Dragon. This might have been a precursor. Out of the characters I only remembered being very fascinated with Kathryn's slave collar, letting her turn it into a fashion accessory. I don't know. This is most likely trash. In fact, the hard copy is going into the trash.
